We are experts at spotting fake people. The way they talk, the way they walk, the way they make promises they cannot keep we see through it all in seconds.
But fake honey? That is harder.
The Truth Nobody Tells You
Here is a shocking reality: 70% of the honey sold in India is adulterated. Sugar syrup, corn syrup, molasses disguised as honey. And most of us are consuming it without knowing. The food we trust. The brands we believe in. The "pure" honey we feed our families.
Much of it is a lie.
At Madhumakhiwala, we have spent over a decade proving that real honey still exists. That purity is not a marketing gimmick. That a brand can be honest, transparent, and socially responsible all at the same time.
The Story Behind the Brand
It all started with a young engineer named Nimit Singh. Enchanted by the world of bees, he quit his job and started researching beekeeping. In 2013, he set up Madhumakhiwala in Lucknow to manufacture organic honey.
The path was not easy. He could not sell much honey in the first two years.
But he did not give up. He travelled across India, studying different methods of beekeeping both conventional and scientific. He recruited new beekeepers, trained them, and created a model where farmers had to sell a portion of their own produce ensuring they made top-quality honey.
Today, 2000+ bee farmers from different states collaborate with Madhumakhiwala to produce the best-quality honey. The startup has expanded its seasonal apiaries to 10 states, offering provenance-based honey like Jamun from Katarniaghat forest and Lychee from Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
What Makes Madhumakhiwala Different?
We do not heat our honey. We do not add sugar. We do not ultra-filter. We do not use chemicals.
Our raw honey is completely unaltered unlike commercially produced honeys available in today's market. It retains all its natural enzymes, vitamins, and propolis. It is thick, cloudy, and 100% real straight from our hives to your jars.
When a New Zealand government delegation inspected our farm, they openly praised our modern methods production of natural honey without heat, adulteration, or chemicals. They assured support in branding our honey at a global level, similar to New Zealand's GI-tagged Manuka honey.
Recognition That Speaks for Itself
In July 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Madhumakhiwala during Mann Ki Baat, bringing our story into every Indian household. He spoke about how we are not only promoting apiculture as a means of livelihood but also empowering bee farmers by engaging them in our company.
In May 2025, a detailed case study titled "Madhumakhiwala: FMCG Marketing and Go-To-Market Strategy" was published by Ivey Publishing and listed at Harvard Business Publishing. A humble startup from Barabanki is now being taught in top management schools worldwide.
We have also been honoured with the Governor's Award at Raj Bhavan
The Social Impact: Transforming Lives, One Village at a Time
What makes us truly different is not just our honey it is our mission.
In Chainpurwa village, Barabanki District, beekeeping has emerged as a sustainable livelihood opportunity for widowed women, with Madhumakhiwala implementing the project.
Earlier, the primary source of livelihood for these villagers was brewing illicit liquor. Many families were adversely affected. District Police, in association with NGOs and entrepreneurs, started "Mission Kayakalp" for the transformation of villagers' lives.
Today, nearly 800 families have been trained in beekeeping and beeswax crafts. Women in these villages prepare beeswax diyas and honey-based gift packs that have become festival favourites.
During their first Diwali, they sold around 12 lakh beeswax diyas in Lucknow. The village that once brewed illicit liquor now crafts eco-friendly products that are reducing dependence on paraffin-based candles.
Youths from these families have been trained in marketing the products. Entrepreneurs from states like Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh are now visiting Barabanki to learn beekeeping techniques and replicate this model in their regions.
This is the "Sweet Revolution" and it is happening right now, in the heart of Uttar Pradesh.
